Re-Visiting a Bad Book.

I’m currently re-reading The Shining by Stephen King. I first read this during one of my college breaks way back when and didn’t care for it. In fact, I found it to be laughably boring.

The Shining is considered to be King’s masterpiece, but I find it trite and boring.

Now, 15ish years later, I’m reading it again to see if I’m feeling any different than I did the first time I read it.

I’m sad to say that I don’t feel any different than I did before and I’m halfway through the book.

It’s not that he’s a bad writer, per se; it’s more that sometimes he gets so enamored with his words and writing style that he forgets when to stop describing things and just get to the point already. And that’s pretty much all I have to say about that.

Do you have a favorite Stephen King novel? What is it?

  1. I actually love Stephen King, but I’ll say The Shining didn’t do a lot for me either. The Stand is my favorite of his but consider Pet Semetary his scariest.

    1. I want to read The Stand! I like Stephen King but this one wasn’t a good introduction to him when I first read him

      1. Carrie is a good one, too. It’s his first novel and is actually pretty short compared to a lot of his stuff. Keep in mind, also, that once he got successful, through a lot of the ’70s and ’80s, he had a serious drug problem, so he was high when a lot of his earlier stuff was written. Sometimes it really shows in his work.

      2. I read that one too. It was just okay to me. I liked the green mile. I’ll have to read some more to make a decision!
